After Five Years Of Waiting, This Pit Bull Finally Got Help From One Brilliant Photograph
After five years in a shelter, Chester the pit bull mix is finally getting the love he deserves, and it's all thanks to the touching picture below.
The North Fork Animal Welfare League posted the image on Facebook last week, after having issues finding a home for gentle Chester because of the stigma surrounding his breed.
The photo was shared thousands of times, and the shelter received over 300 emails and countless phone calls from people who wanted to give "The Court Jester" a home.
Manager Gabby Stroup told the Southfield Local that "The phone just never stopped. People called from Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Michigan, Oregon, New Jersey Wisconsin, Nova Scotia, Australia and more — people tearing up as they called."
One family seemed like the perfect fit for Chester. Dana Dor and her family visited and both sides knew they were meant to be together.
And now, after five long years, Chester is happily living his new life in his new home.
But, Chester only got a chance because of the incredible work of The North Fork Animal Welfare League, a "no kill" shelter.
And North Fork wants to remind everyone that there are hundreds of animals like Chester who have been stuck in shelters for years. Like Fiona.
